Meet Paula Grady

Paula has first-hand experience with the benefits and blessings of natural childbirth. Her first child was born in the hospital when she was very young and the experience was positive.  But by the time she was ready for a second child, many years later, something had changed in her. This time would be different.

"I hired Paula because her pictures showed she wasn't too much of a hippie type and she looked like someone I could relate to.” – Napa, CA

Paula's Story

“I had a positive experience delivering my first baby in the hospital.  But I knew my next baby had to be born in our home, on our land.  Two of my friends were doctors and I asked if they would help me deliver my baby at home.  Both laughed and told me I needed to find a midwife.”

“Finding a home birth midwife at that time was no easy task (remember the yellow pages??)  After endless phone calls, I finally found a midwife able to help me deliver my baby at home.”

”It was this midwife who would change the course of my life.  She saw something in me that I didn’t see.  Following a beautiful homebirth experience, she suggested I become a midwife myself.  I had never considered it so my initial reaction was “What? Me? No!”

“I started attending births, supporting other women birth their babies at home, and discovered a passion I didn't know existed within me.  Today I know that midwifery is a calling and that I didn't choose it, it chose me.  I can't NOT be a woman's midwife if she feels I am the right person for the job. I have traveled over 3 hours from my home, on multiple occasions, to attend births because it felt like something I just needed to do.”
